Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about MissCaps — from how the missed contact switch triggers to how your data stays protected.

All Questions

What happens if I forget my Privacy PIN?

Once forgotten, you will no longer be able to view your own capsules — and neither can we.

However, this does not affect capsule delivery. Your recipients only need to answer their verification question correctly to receive and view the capsule — that process is completely independent of your PIN.

If you need to update the capsule content, there is unfortunately no technical solution. The only option is to notify your recipients directly to disregard the capsule.

privacy
How does MissCaps ensure my capsule hasn't been tampered with?

When you activate a capsule, we generate a combined hash from your encrypted content, images, and video, then record it permanently on the Solana blockchain — a public, decentralized network that no one can alter.

When recipients open the capsule, MissCaps automatically downloads the content and compares it against the on-chain record. If anything has changed, verification fails and the recipient is notified. The blockchain transaction is also shown so anyone can verify it independently on a public Solana explorer.

security
I'll be off-grid for months with no internet. How do I stop my capsule from triggering while I'm still alive?

You will come back safe, we believe in you.

We recommend increasing your Miss Days setting to something larger than your expected time away — for example, 365 days. Once you're back, simply open the app to check in and the countdown resets.

You might also consider setting up a Secondary Confirmer — a trusted person who can confirm you're okay on your behalf if the system flags a missed check-in.

general
How does MissCaps make sure recipients actually receive the capsule?

Once a capsule is triggered, we send an immediate delivery notification to each recipient by email and/or SMS.

If a recipient hasn't opened their link within 24 hours, we automatically send follow-up reminders over the next couple of days, so the notification is hard to miss.

We recommend adding both an email address and a phone number for each recipient to maximize delivery reliability.

general
What if my recipient types the verification answer slightly differently — like "Tokyo" instead of "tokyo"?

That's completely fine. MissCaps normalizes all answers before encrypting them — trimming extra spaces, ignoring capitalization, and converting full-width characters to half-width. So "Tokyo", "tokyo", and " TOKYO " all work the same way.

To make things even easier for your recipients, write the verification question hint as clearly and specifically as possible.
